The Atwood Lab (http://www.atwoodlab.com) located at the University of California Irvine in the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology, seeks a postdoctoral research fellow to lead a project defining epidermal stem cells across in vivo and organoid skin systems. The goal of this project is to use single cell transcriptomics, spatial imaging data, and genetic alterations of human skin equivalent organoids to define and improve how epidermal stem cells differentiate into mature keratinocytes. The applicant will work with collaborators generating new bioengineered substrates and mathematical and computational analyses to facilitate the generation of skin organoids that closely resemble their in vivo counterparts.
This is a multi-year, fully-funded position that will use patient samples, human skin equivalent organoid models, and cultured primary cells to define human skin equivalent organoids and use them to dissect essential signaling pathways in human skin tissue. Ideal applicants will have a background in molecular biology, genetics, genomics, and/or bioinformatics with proficiency in mammalian cell culture, organoid culture, and an interest in projects that directly interface with patient subjects.
