A Post-doctoral scholar position (Ph.D.) funded by NIH are available immediately to study Chlamydia, the most commonly reported cause of infectious disease in the U.S.
These projects are a collaboration between Dr. Christine Suetterlin (Department of Developmental and Cell Biology) and Dr. Ming Tan (Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics) and at the University of California, Irvine.
1) Developmental regulation: mechanisms by which Chlamydia uses its cell size, small RNAs and temporal gene expression to control differentiation between its replicating and infectious forms.
2) Host-pathogen interactions: how this intracellular bacterium dysregulates the centrosome, cilia, cell cycle and intracellular trafficking of the infected host cell.

Experience in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, cellular microbiology, cell biology and confocal and super-resolution microscopy would be advantageous, but we are currently accepting all applications.
