The goal of UC Irvine Applied Innovation is to bring faculty and business together to develop campus-based discoveries into entities of economic growth for the community. To help with this ambitious goal, the center has introduced a series of awards to assist faculty with technology development. The seeding fund program, that includes Track 3 awards resulted from a partnership of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Office of Research, the Provost and Applied Innovations. It was created this past fall in order to provide assistance to university faculty with technology development that focuses on the rapid assessment of commercial feasibility. Professor Aimee L. Edinger, Developmental and Cell Biology, is the recent recipient of one of the first round of Track 3 awards. The award was given to foster the development of an anti-cancer therapy. The successful completion of the award milestones will allow Professor Edinger to be eligible for an additional follow-up funding.
