Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Professor Kathleen K. Treseder has been appointed the first Howard A. Schneiderman Endowed Chair in the School of Biological Sciences, effective July 1, 2020. The Howard A. Schneiderman Endowed Chair was established in 2020 to honor the contributions of Dr. Howard Schneiderman, former dean of the School of Biological Sciences, as a way to recognize faculty who are experts in their fields. Professor Treseder will receive an endowment that will help support her teaching and research efforts.
Professor Treseder is a biogeochemist whose goal is to improve predictions of future trajectories of global climate change by incorporating the contributions of fungi. Her research targets scales ranging from molecules and small organisms to the microbial ecology of the globe. She has published 114 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Nature, Science, and Ecology Letters. She has also been recognized as one of the most highly referenced scientists in her field by The Web of Science Group. In acknowledgement of her outstanding research and publication record, she has been elected a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America, the American Academy of Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
