DCB Seminar Series: Dr. Xiaoyu Shi

October 17, 2024 @ 11:00 AM 12:00 PM

Abstract: This seminar features Dr. Shi’s tenure research presentation, focusing on her lab’s contributions to innovative biotechnologies and the exploration of cellular mechanisms related to aging and cancer. She will provide an overview of her research program and recent breakthroughs, particularly discussing Label-Retention Expansion Microscopy (LR-ExM), which achieves an impressive resolution of up to 5 nm for imaging cells and tissues, and Gel-based Optical-Isolation 3D (GO3D) Spatial Multimomics, which enables unbiased analysis of proteome and transcriptome with subcellular 3D spatial resolution. These technologies can potentially transform our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying aging, cancer, and neurological disorders. Dr. Shi will conclude her talk by showcasing a cellular mechanism identified using LR-ExM, highlighting nuclear invagination as a key regulator of ribosome biogenesis. This new mechanism is shared between aging and cancer cells.
