Biological Sciences School Welcomes Incoming Freshmen

Welcome Week kicked off on Monday, September 29 with the Fall Convocation ceremony when Chancellor Gillman officially welcomed 7,400 new students in the Bren Events Center. A highlight of the ceremony was the announcement that the Biological Sciences School is the winner of the 2014 “Best Zot! Zot! Zot! Award, chosen after each school’s rendition of the cheer at commencement ceremonies in June. Immediately afterward, the 810 freshmen and 164 transfers joining the Biological Sciences School walked to the nearby Anteater Ball Park for a special welcome from Dean LaFerla and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies Michael Leon. Carolyn Willmann, Director of Student Affairs, introduced the counseling staff and peer tutors as resources for all entering freshmen and transfers. On Wednesday, October 1, the new students were introduced to the many activities and organizations of the Biological Sciences School at an involvement fair in the Mitosis Plaza near Biological Sciences III.
