Assistant Professor Eitan Schechtman from the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences has received the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award, a prestigious honor recognizing outstanding early-career faculty.
Professor Schechtman’s research explores how sleep strengthens memory over time. While sleep is known to help memories shortly after they form, his work examines whether multiple nights of sleep provide ongoing benefits, especially for weaker memories. Using behavioral studies, physiological measurements and computer models, his research could reshape how people think about sleep — not just as a tool for short-term learning but as a key to long-term memory retention.
This award highlights Dr. Schechtman’s contributions to science and education, reinforcing the importance of sleep in learning and memory.
