On a warm evening in October, graduate students and postdoctoral scientists gathered at the University Club to learn about careers in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, and network with alumni and professionals from local companies including: Allergan, Alphaeon, Caladrius Biosciences and Research Diagnostics. The event was a highlight of the new Graduate Professional Success Program (GPS-BIOMED) in the School of Biological Sciences, which aims to better prepare UCI scientists for diverse career fields through career exposure, internships and networking opportunities. By featuring local alumni the program works to strengthen current connections to industry, build a supportive framework for Anteaters interested in biotech and pharmaceutical jobs, and create new inroads to Orange County businesses. For companies seeking a well-trained workforce, the increased exposure and first hand access to exceptionally talented trainees will prove to be advantageous.
