The UC Irvine Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences proudly announces that Assistant Professor Nir Drayman has been selected as a 2025 Kavli Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). This esteemed recognition honors early-career scientists who have made significant contributions to their fields and exhibit exceptional potential for future leadership in scientific research and innovation.
Professor Drayman studies how viruses infect cells and what factors determine whether an infection spreads or is stopped. His research explores why seemingly identical cells can respond differently to the same virus, which may lead to better treatments for infections. By combining innovative methods from different scientific fields, his work provides new insights that could help in the fight against diseases caused by viruses.
The Kavli Fellows Program, organized by the NAS, invites a select group of emerging scientific leaders to participate in the Kavli Frontiers of Science symposium. This event fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and discussion on some of the most pressing challenges in modern science. Selection as a Kavli Fellow is considered a high honor, as many past participants have gone on to receive major scientific accolades, including membership in the National Academy of Sciences and Nobel Prizes.
Professor Drayman’s selection highlights the strength of research at the Dunlop School and underscores the impact of faculty contributions to advancing biological sciences.
