Professor Michael A. Yassa: James L. McGaugh Chair in the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory

Professor Michael A. Yassa, Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Professor of Neurobiology and Behavior, has been appointed as the James L. McGaugh Chair in the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory.

Professor Mike Yassa continues to have a positive impact on UCI and the School of Biological Sciences, leading to his appointment as James L. McGaugh Endowed Chair. He has a well-established and highly productive research program that investigates neural mechanisms of memory and the disruption of these processes in aging, neurodegenerative disease, and mood disorders. As the Director of the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory (CNLM), he has established a highly successful international conference, expanded membership and overseen the enhancement of community outreach. In addition to his contributions in learning and memory, Professor Yassa has taken a lead role in addressing inclusive excellence on campus. In 2020, he was appointed Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the school.
